Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Home Pet Monitor (the “App”) handles information. The App is developed and operated by Dedaldev doo, Vojvodjanska 42, 11070 Novi Beograd, Serbia, company number 21438995, tax number (PIB) 111190461 (“Dedaldev”, “we”, “us”). Dedaldev doo is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at info@dedaldev.com. By using the App you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. How streaming works

Home Pet Monitor turns two phones into a private pet camera and viewer. One phone films, the other one watches. Video and audio travel over WebRTC and are encrypted end to end with DTLS-SRTP, which means only your two phones hold the keys to the media.

  • Direct connection. When both phones can reach each other, for example on the same home Wi-Fi, the encrypted stream goes straight from one phone to the other and never touches our infrastructure.
  • Signaling. To find each other, the phones exchange connection metadata through our signaling server at api.homepetmonitor.com. That metadata is limited to session descriptions, ICE candidates and room codes. No video or audio passes through signaling. Both phones need internet access for pairing and for reconnecting.
  • Relay. On restrictive networks, such as some mobile networks or strict NAT setups, a direct path is impossible. The encrypted stream is then forwarded through our TURN relay on the same server. The relay moves sealed packets. It cannot decrypt them, it does not inspect them, and it does not store them.

Nothing is ever recorded on our servers. There is no cloud library of your home.

2. What we collect, by feature

Pairing

To link a camera phone and a viewer phone we create a pairing room on our server. We store a room id, a short pairing code, a room token and a heartbeat timestamp that tells us the room is still in use. This is technical connection data, not content, and it is not used to build a profile of you.

Optional account

An account is not required. You can skip sign in and pair with a QR code or a 6 character code. If you choose to sign in, the App offers Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google on iPhone, and Sign in with Google on Android. There is no email and password registration in this version. When you sign in we store:

  • your email address as provided by Apple or Google, including a private relay address if you choose to hide your email;
  • the display name supplied by the provider;
  • the provider identifier that links your account to Apple or Google;
  • your device list, shown in the App as “My cameras”: camera name, pet type, room id and room token.

We do not receive or store your Apple or Google password.

Purchases

The optional Pro subscription is processed by Apple or Google and handled in the App through RevenueCat, which acts as our processor for purchase validation. In that context we and RevenueCat handle your purchase history, an anonymous RevenueCat app user id and the store receipt used to confirm your entitlement. Payment card details are handled by Apple or Google and never reach us. This purchase data is not used for advertising and is not sold.

Anonymous usage statistics

From version 1.0.1 the App collects anonymous usage statistics, so that we can see where people get stuck and keep the App reliable. On first launch the App generates a random install identifier. It is not derived from your device hardware and it is not tied to an account. It only tells us that a group of events came from the same installation.

The events are sent to our own server at api.homepetmonitor.com. An event is a short name, for example “app opened”, “camera started” or “viewer connected”, with a few small technical details:

  • the App version, the platform and the language of the App;
  • the pet type chosen for a camera;
  • whether a connection was direct or went through our relay, and how long it took to connect;
  • how long a viewing session lasted;
  • which permission was granted;
  • which purchase screen was shown.

These statistics never contain video, audio, photos, camera names, your email address or any account data. They stay on our own server. There is no third party analytics service and no advertising SDK involved, and we share the statistics with no one.

You can switch this off. Open Settings and turn off Share anonymous usage statistics. The App stops sending events, and the events already stored for that installation are deleted.

We also receive subscription events on our own server from RevenueCat, that is a purchase, a renewal or a cancellation, without any payment details. We use them for the same purpose, understanding how the App performs and keeping it reliable.

Connection diagnostics

Apart from the anonymous usage statistics described above, which stay on our own server, the App contains no third party analytics SDK, no advertising SDK and no third party tracking. We do not build a profile of you.

The App does include the Google Firebase SDK. In the version you download from the store it sends us nothing about your sessions. Connection diagnostics, a technical record of how two phones negotiated their connection, are collected only in our internal developer builds and when a hidden reviewer test mode is switched on for app review. In normal use diagnostics are off, no record is created and no call to Firebase is made.

When diagnostics do run, the record holds:

  • whether the device acted as the camera or the viewer;
  • a random session identifier, and a random viewer identifier generated on the device;
  • the App version, the platform and the operating system version;
  • a timeline of connection events: connection states, how many network candidates of each type were gathered, and which path the connection finally used.

Even then the record contains no video, no audio, no IP addresses and no account details, and it is tied to the pairing room rather than to your name or email address. These records cannot be read by any copy of the App, on your phone or anyone else’s. Only we can read them, with an administrative key, and we keep them only for as long as they are useful for troubleshooting.

Permissions the App requests

  • Camera, so the camera phone can film your pet.
  • Microphone, for live audio and push to talk.
  • Local network, so the two phones can take the direct path on your Wi-Fi.
  • Notifications, for local sound, motion and connection alerts. Alerts are generated on your own device; we do not run a push server for them.
  • Photos, only if you choose to save a snapshot or a clip to your gallery.

Every permission is optional and can be changed or revoked at any time in your device settings.

3. What we never collect

  • Recordings of your video or audio. We do not record, store or view your stream.
  • Your contacts, calendar or messages.
  • Your location. The App does not request location permission.
  • Advertising identifiers. There is no ad tracking and no ad network in the App.
  • Your payment card details.

Photos and video clips you save are written to the gallery of the viewer phone only. They never leave your device through us.

4. Third parties

We work with a small number of providers, and only to the extent needed to run the service:

  • Apple, for app distribution, Sign in with Apple and subscription billing.
  • Google, for app distribution on Google Play, Sign in with Google and subscription billing.
  • RevenueCat, for subscription validation and entitlement management. RevenueCat also forwards subscription events, a purchase, a renewal or a cancellation, to our own server, without any payment details.
  • DigitalOcean, which hosts our signaling and relay server in its Frankfurt region in Germany, inside the European Union.
  • Google Firebase. The Firebase SDK is present in the App. It backs an older signaling path that we keep available as a rollback option, and it stores the connection diagnostics described above in the developer and reviewer builds where those are switched on. Firebase Analytics is not part of the App, and no video, audio or saved image is ever uploaded to Firebase.

We use no third party analytics provider. The anonymous usage statistics described above are collected by us, on our own server. No analytics company, no advertising network and no data broker receives them.

We never sell your personal information, and we never share your video, audio or saved images with anyone.

5. Retention

  • Pairing rooms. Idle rooms are cleaned up by an hourly job on our server. A room expires 24 hours after its last heartbeat, and its pairing code expires with it.
  • Anonymous usage statistics. Kept for 400 days and then deleted. If you turn off Share anonymous usage statistics in Settings, the events already stored for that installation are deleted right away.
  • Connection diagnostics. Not collected at all in store builds. Where a developer or reviewer build does create them, they are kept only while they are useful for troubleshooting. They hold no content and no account details.
  • Account data. If you created an account, we keep it until you delete it, as described below.
  • Purchase records. Subscription and receipt records are retained by Apple, Google and RevenueCat under their own policies and applicable accounting rules.
  • Your content. Since we never store your video or audio, there is nothing for us to keep. Photos and clips stay on your phone until you delete them. Uninstalling the App removes its local data from that device.

6. Deleting your data

In the App. Open Settings, then Account, then Delete account. This permanently removes your account, your authentication tokens, your camera list and your pairing rooms. The action cannot be undone.

Anonymous usage statistics. Turning off Share anonymous usage statistics in Settings deletes the events already stored for that installation. Deleting your account also deletes the anonymous usage statistics stored for your installation.

By email. If you no longer have access to the App, write to info@dedaldev.com from the email address you signed in with. We delete the account and the data listed above within 30 days.

Subscriptions are managed and cancelled through Apple or Google, not by us. Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription, so cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account settings as well.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete the personal data we hold about you, to object to processing, and to complain to your local supervisory authority. Our legal basis for handling pairing data and account data is the performance of our contract with you, that is, providing the App. Because we collect so little, most requests are resolved either in the App or by writing to info@dedaldev.com. We answer within 30 days.

8. Children

The App is intended for adults who want to keep an eye on their pets. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

Video and audio are encrypted end to end with DTLS-SRTP. Traffic to our signaling server runs over WSS, an encrypted WebSocket connection, and the rest of our API runs over HTTPS. Pairing rooms are protected by short lived codes and room tokens, and they expire automatically. Account tokens are revoked when you delete your account. No system can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure, but we keep the amount of data we hold deliberately small, which is the strongest protection we can offer you.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We post the updated version here with a new effective date, and for significant changes we will say so in the App. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
